SPENDING ON ROADS
£46 Million Last Year (NX. Press Association) WELLINGTON. Aug. 28 The sum of £46 million was spent on road works in New Zealand last year and the final quality of all this immense volume of work was entirely dependent on overseers and inspecting staff, the Director of Roading for the Ministry of Works (Mr J. H. McKay) said today. He was speaking at the opening of a 10-day Ministry of Works’ course of instruction for highway overseers at Trentham. About 200 overseers had in the past attended courses such as this, said Mr McKay. He felt this was a contributing factor in the high standard of highway construction here.
