Parachuting ACCURATE N.Z. JUMPS

U.S. Leads At Orange (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) ORANGE (Massachusetts), Aug. 27 New Zealand’s parachuting team jolted the sixth, world sport parachuting championships yesterday when they bettered a world record in team accuracy from 1500 metres. The New Zealanders, H Hutchinson, W. F. Adams. J. Charnock, and P. Dawson, landed an average of 3.33 metres from dead centre. But better later jumps by Canadian and American competitors prevented the New Zealand effort from being a world record. The United States men’s team took the lead while the Canadian contestants set an unofficial world record for accuracy from 1500 metres. The United States raised their points total to 6011.165, overtaking Czechoslovakia’s score of 5976.771 points. The Canadians landed at an average distance of 1.76 metres off the centre of the target, with two of the fourman team jumping to within only .81 metres of the bull’s eye. The old record, set by a United States team last December, was an average of 4.14 metres from the target centre.
