CRUISER’S VISIT

H.M.S. Tiger Due In October H.M.S. Tiger, one of the Royal Navy’s most modern cruisers, will visit Lyttelton on October 16. She will remain for two days. The cruiser will probably be open for public inspection while she is at Lyttelton. The Tiger is attached to the Far East station at Singapore, and will be in New Zealand waters on an operational visit. She is one of three cruisers of the Tiger class, which are probably the last Royal Navy cruisers to be armed with conventional guns. The Tiger has been designed for atomic warfare and can be controlled from an enclosed bridge. Her main armament is four 6in guns in two twin turrets, and six 3in guns, also in twin turrets. Of an advanced design, they are said to be equally effective against surface or air targets. H.M.S. Tiger is believed to have cost £13,113.000. She will visit Auckland and Wellington before coming to Lyttelton.
