AIRLIFT TO AUSTRALIA

Qantas Plane Withdrawn (N.Z. Press Association/ WELUNGTON, Aug. 28. Plans for air-freighting New Zealand thoroughbreds to Australia in the first week of October for the spring racing carnivals have been set back by the withdrawal of the Qantas Super Constellation to have been used. Tnere is no certainty now the horses will go. Qantas has withdrawn from the arrangement, but T.E.A.L. is investigating the possibility of obtaining alternative aircraft from companies which operate in Australia only. A T.E-A.L. spokesman said: "You can be assured we are doing everything possible.” However, no real progress has yet been made. Hie owners of the thoroughbreds concerned will now have to face the possibility that if alternative air transport cannot be arranged, their horses may not be able to get to Australia in time for the big spring events. The horses which had been booked to go in the. early-October airlift are Cabriere, Tara’s Pride, Diamond Head, Even Stevens tone of the early favourites for the Caulfield Cup), Far Step. Apa, Ross, Otematata and Fly Home.
