“Sec Us At Work” Afternoon A “see us at work” afternoon—to enable parents of apprentices in the New Zealand Electricity Department to see the type of work their sons are doing, and the training provided—will be held at the Addington and Islington sub-stations on Thursday afternoon. The department also hopes to interest youths who will be leaving school at the end of this year and who may contemplate a career in the department, beginning as an apprentice. To facilitate organisation, those contemplating attending the afternoon’s demonstrations are asked to tell the New Zealand Electricity Department beforehand. The afternoon will begin at the Addington sub-station, at the corner of Princess street and Clarence street at 1.45 p.m. Here, people will be taken round the workshops and test laboratories Among other things, they will see the testing of hightension switches —66,000 volts, and 220.000 volts. The party of spectators will then be taken on to the Islington sub-station. where they will see m operation the rooms which control the whole supply of electricity in the South Island. Onlookers will be conducted on their tour of the ' installations by officers of . the department. No special equipment need be worn, but anyone carrying such objects as a long metalhandled umbrella and the like will be asked to leave these behind before setting out.
