KILLER BOAR
Shooting In Mountains (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, August 27. Hunters shot a lamb-killing boar —one of the biggest wild pigs ever found in the mountainous Otau region, near Clevedon after it had savaged a dog on Sunday. For three years this black and tan boar evaded many hunting parties. It grew to a length of six feet three inches and its weight was estimated at 4001 b. It injured many dogs which sought it, and travelled long distances to escape capture, i On Sunday, Messrs H. L. and R. B. Kimpton. farmers, of Alfreston road. Manurewa, and Mr R. Spick, a ranger of Otau Mountain road, set off with four dogs or yet another hunt for the wily boar. They found fresh tracks near the Auckland City Council watershed reserve in the Otau area.
Soon afterwards the dogs bailed up the pig which was shot but not before one of them. Dean, was badly ripped. From past experience, farmers in the area knew new-born lambs were one of the pig’s favourite dishes.
