FIREMEN’S BEDS

Union Files Appeal The Christchdrch Fire Brigadesmen's Union has filed a notice of appeal in the Arbitration Court against the decision of a disputes committee that . the Christchurch Metropolitan Fire Board is not required to provide firemen living off station while off-duty at the new Headquarters Fire Station with separate beds.

The fire board has been advised of the union's notice of appeal. The appeal will be heard in Christchurch, probably in October, although it is not yet certain when the Arbitration Court will hold its next sitting in Christchurch. In the meantime, half the firemen involved are sleeping on beds provided by the board and the other half on the floor on mattresses provided by the union.
