TOWN CLERK’S CLAIM
Settlement Out Of Court (N 2 Press Association) AUCKLAND. Aug. 27. Settlement of a claim by Alfred George Strahan, former town clerk, against the Birkenhead Borough Council was announced in the Supreme Court at Auckland today by Mr B. Sinclair. counsel for the borough Mr Justice Woodhouse said he was glad counsel had been able to settle the claim ard applauded the good sense of both parties. He entered judgment for Strahan for £2Ol 5s 6d. On the application of Mr Sinclair and with the concurrence of Mr R. K. Davison, counsel tor Strahan.
Strahan alleged in the action that he was wrongfully dismissed by the council. Mr Sinclair said that m agreeing to the settlement, the council acknowledged that the motion passed by it on February 8. 1961, “that the town clerk be replaced." did not amount to a proper dismissal of Strahan. “The council wishes to make it clear that Mr Strahan's leaving the council was not occasioned by any dishonesty or lack of integrity on his part.” said Mr Sinclair. The council would pay Strahan £450 in settlement of his claims. Some of the money had already been paid into Court
