The New Zealand-bred Summer Prince became favourite for the AJ.C Derby after his good win in the Canterbury Guineas at Canterbury yesterday Summer Prince (5/2 and equal favourite) was easing up at the poet to beat Lancelot (5/2) by a length. Lepidux. the 16/1 outsider in the field of five, was a aimliar distance away, third.
The win gave the jockev. G Moore, his fourth Canterbury Guineas.
Bookmakers gambled against Summer Prince, although one bettor took £4OOO to £2o* Other winning bets Included £2OOO to £lOOO. £l5OO to £lOOO. and £l4OO to £BOO, but the price eased to 5/2 The trainer.
