Nicholson To Leave

C. R. Nicholson, the Sydenham left-arm fast bowler, will leave for Australia early next month to further his cricketing experience. Nicholson hopes to play club cricket in Sydney. In his two seasons and a half in Canterbury, Nicholson captured more wickets than any other fast bowler in senior club matches. In 23 games he. has taken 110 wickets at an average cost of less than 15. While at school in Invercargill Nicholson first became prominent and played for Southland, and then for the O'.ago Brabin Shield tournament team for three seasons. In his last tournament he played for a New Zealand Brabin Shield team against the touring New South Wales Country Colts team at Wellington. In 1959-60, his first season in Canterbury, he took 48 club wickets and played his only Plunket Shield match, against Wellington at Basin Reserve. Although he failed to take a wicket, he had a last-wicket partnership with R. C. Motz in Canterbury’s second innings for 44 valuable runs.

Last summer Nicholson toured several South Island centres with the Canterbury B team and against Central Otago finished with the best figures of his career, eight for 13. On this tour he took 33 wickets at an average cost of nine runs.
