DRIVERS’ UNION MEETING

Railwaymen's Support

The Canterbury branch of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants has decided to support the Canterbury Drivers’ Union in its stopwork meeting, which will begin at 8 a m. on Tuesday.

In a joint statement the president of the branch (Mr G. Finlayson) and the secretary (Mr A. E Armstrong) said that no trucks driven by members of the drivers’ union would be loaded or unloaded during the stop-work meeting. Self-em-ployed truck drivers would receive the normal service from railway workers. The drivers’ union and Federation of Labour sought the support for the drivers' union meeting, called in protest against the employers’ refusal in conciliation proceedings to give a wage rise satisfactory to th? New Zealand Drivers’ Federation.
