Efficiency Of Dips
‘‘The views expressed by Mr W. S. Allen in your issue test Saturday under the heading ‘Efficiency of Dipping Materials’ are. with one notable exception, in agreement with those published by the Director-General of Agriculture after a meeting wi-lh dip manufacturers." says Mr G. G. Tavlor. technical manager of the Fs.rrn Chemicals Company, of Mapua. Nelson.
"Results of experimen’s presented by the Department of Agriculture and by other manufacturers showed clearly tot neither Nankor nor Diazinon will eradicate lice on sheep with six weeks wool and certainly not on three months’ wool. as claimed by Mr Allen. We believe that farmers who wish to continue the use of sprav races should be aware of this fact. The proper recormrendiation. in our view, is to tip spray straight off shears or within two weeks of shearing.
"Our company along with Sheeip and Crop Dusters. Ltd.. Christchurch, introduced the system of dusting sheep, and we have considerable research and field experience of chemicals and performance
of dust formulations. Dusting with ccgano phosphorous compounds will not eradicate lice from infested sheep with three months' wool. On open wool and in warm weather 4 per cent. Nan koi dust gives good results at six weeks from shearing but we still believe the best recommendation should be to dust straight off shears or within two weeks of shearing."
