MAORI MINISTER PROPOSED

Recommendation By Synod

A recommendation that a Maori minister be appointed to the South Island was adopted by the Synod of the North Canterbury district of the Methodist Church of New Zealand yesterday. At the turn of the century, when the Maoris were dying out, there were three Maori ministers in the South Island, said the Rev. F. G. Colechin, the convener of the Rehut> Hostel committee of the Central Mission. Now, there war no minister and young Maoris were migrating to the South Island.

The proposed Maori minister would be stationed in Christchurch. The recommendation will be discussed at the conference of the Church at Christchurch in November. A recommendation that a fifth Maori circuit, embracing all the South Island, be created was also adopted.
