U.S. DEFENCE WORK

Communists To Be Barred (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) WASHINGTON, August 21. The United States Defence Department is preparing an initial list of 3000 to 4000 defence plants and facilities where it will be unlawful to employ a member of the Communist Party. Department officials said today several thousands more will be added to the list later. The action is taken under a recent Congressional amendment to internal security law. That law makes it illegsl for a member of a Communistaction organisation to work in any ‘‘defence facility” and requires any job seekers to disclose membership. Violation carries a fine up to 10.000 dollars or five years imprisonment or both.
