Golf VICTORY AT 19th HOLE

Godfrey Has Close Call (N.Z. Press Association) NAPIER. August 22. The title-holder. W. J. Godfrey. of Auckland, narrowly escaped defeat in the second round of the Maori golf championship at Napier today. Godfrey defeated Z. Gray (Otaki) at the nineteenth after a tense struggle. Gray had a chance of winning the hole but his approach shot to the green was too strong, and he finished in an awkward lie in bamboo.

The biggest upset occurred in the second round of the women’s championship when the reigning champion, Mrs D. G. Lawrence (Rotorua), was decisively beaten by Miss M. Winerb'uryn (Otaki ), 5 and 3.
