Magistrate’s Court NO CONVICTION ENTERED FOR PARKING OFFENCE

Reginald H. Stillwell, re* tired, who parked illegally for two minutes and who said at the time that he was carrying out an errand of mercy, was discharged without conviction under section 42 of the Criminal Justice Act when he appeared before Mr E. S. J. Crutchley, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court yesterday on a charge of parking on the off side of another vehicle in Gloucester street on April 5. Stillwell pleaded guilty, and was not represented by counsel. Chief Patrol Officer J. Brown said the defendant’s car was double parked from 11.30 a.m. to 11.32 am. in Gloucester street near the National Airways Corporation centre. The defendant said at the time that he was carrying out an errand of mercy in doing a message for elderly people from an oldage home. The defendant said to the Magistrate that he had gone to collect a film from the air centre for the entertainment of elderly people at the Christchurch Old Folk and Beneficiaries’ Association. He had been unable to get a parking space. He had been illegally parked for no more than two minutes.

A letter from the association was given to the Magistrate by the defendant.

BURNT STOLEN GOODS A few days after a woman stole a coat and its contents, of a total value of £l3 4s, she became worried about what she had done and burnt the coat and its contents in a fire in a house at Islington, said Sergeant V. F. Townshend.

The woman, Lorraine Dawn Frew, aged 22, a factory hand, pleaded guilty to theft, and was remanded on on bail for sentence.

Sergeant Townshend said that on July 9 the complainant reported to the police that her coat had been removed from a cloak room of a city office. The accused was interviewed, and admitted taking the coat when she was leaving the firm after carrying out a business transaction. ASSAULT When a man accidentally knocked over a girl at a party in Fitzgerald avenue on July 20, the girl’s escort, Andrew Mohi, ’ aged 20, a workman, struck the man on the face, cutting his Up and knocking a tooth out, said .Sergeant Townshend. Mohi pleaded guilty to assaulting Lawrence William Conway, and was fined £lO Sergeant Townshend said the accused failed to answer a summons last Friday and a warrant was issued for his arrest. “He said he did not come on Friday because he was suffering from the ’flu.” The complainant was returning to the party when he accidentally knocked the girl over. Other persons at the party stopped Mohi from assaulting Conway further. Sergeant Townshend said. When Mohi was seen by the poUce he admitted the offence, and said he had lost his temper. REMANDED On a charge of having possession of a firearm without lawful, proper, or sufficient purpose on July 30, Imre Fulop, aged 26, a workman, was remanded in custody until this morning. He pleaded not guilty. Sergeant Townshend said that Fulop failed to appear when the case was to be heard on Monday, and a warrant was issued for his arrest. His reason for not attending was that he was working. The Magistrate said the question of estreating the accused’s bail would be considered today. G Hattaway), was convicted and fined £lO, and his driver’s licence was cancelled for one year, for driving in a dangerous manner on May 17. Burleigh pleaded not guilty. G. Hutchison. The Magistrate said that he did not think the appropriate charge had been laid. A charge against Brian Alexander Savin of failing to give all possible information was dismissed. In evidence Savin, who pleaded not guilty, said he replied to registered letters sent to him regarding his car having no warrant of fitness.
