DELIVERY OF FLOUR
N.Z. Manner “Filthy” (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, August 21. In no other civilised country in the world was flour delivered in such a filthy manner as it was in New Zealand., an Auckland baker told the Committee of Inquiry investgating the wheat, flour, and bread industries today. The baker. Hilary Robert Wilson, said he returned from an overseas trip in 1951 with complete data on bulk flour handling for larger bakeries and was told that the capital expenditure would require an act of Parliament When he persisted in hawking the idea he was advised by one senior official of the Industries and Commerce Department to “forget it” because any saving rn cost would be taken from tihe bakers by the Price Tribunal.
Customs Raid On Ship.— A small number of undeclared watches was found concealed op the overseas ship Kweichow at Lyttelton on Monday by a raiding party of customs officers. A similar raid was made on the Van Neck on Saturday. Both ships have been searched at other ports in New Zealand on their present voyages.’
