CAUTION OF PLAYER
Protest Made To Committee
A fourth division soccer player placed on the caution list by the management committee of the Canterbury Football Association recently, claimed in a letter to the committee last evening that the way the decision was arrived at was "undemocratic.’*
The player, J. H. Gaskell, of Lyttelton, was cautioned by the referee (Mr W. P, Daley) for “ungentlemanly conduct” in the game against Nomads on July
Gaskell said he did not deny the charge, but protested over the "undemocratic” way the decision was arrived at.
"To find a player guilty of any misconduct in absentia is just a sheer mockery and seems to suggest that regardless of the consequences the referee is always right.” he wrote. All the committee had done was to inform the Lyttelton club that the caution had been noted, said the association’s secretary (Mr E. H. Williams). "The club should take some disciplinary action against the player or. at least, see that he pulls his socks up.” he said. The committee decided that a letter should be sent to Gaskell drawing his attention to these points.
