PAPER MILK CARTONS
N.Z. Manufacture Unlikely (N Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Aug. 21. Paper cartons could not compete with glass bottles as milk containers while paper was its present price in New Zealand, said the managingdirector of the United Empire Box Company. Ltd., Mr I. N. C. Doig. today. He was replying to a shareholder who suggested at the annual meeting that the company enter milk carton manufacturing. Economical manufacture of milk cartons would require plant of such size that the sale of its output would be a problem. No doubt the day when New Zeeland could adopt milk cartons would come, and then the company would be in front, Mr Doig said.
Another member said there should be a strong demand for paper dishes, particularly in restaurants, to save washing. The company should be in a good position to meet it A start could be made with dinner plates. To this Mr Doig replied: “We have such a move under consideration.’’
