Good Record In Sprint Race

“When in doubt back the three-year-old.” That advice often pays handsomely in early-season open sprint handicaps. The Pakuranga Hunt Club’s Admiralty Handicap, six furlongs, is one of those races in which some smart performers have successfully started their second-season records. Kandavu and Challen, the last two winners, were both three-year-olds when they won.

Others to win this race as three-year-olds include Coleridge, Somerset Fair, Brown Prince, and Spellbound. Three-year-olds in the Admiralty Handicap field on Saturday are Blyton and Sand Boy.

Blyton took high ranking amongst the two-year-olds last season when she won five races in succession, two at Ellerslie, two at Trentham. and the last of them the Manawatu Sires’ Produce Stakes.

Sand Boy was prepared for his first season’s racing by the Trentham trainer, R. S. Wallis, and won three races, two at Wairarapa and one at the Manawatu Cup meeting.

He is now trained at Ellers, lie by K. J. Heaton.
