LABOUR TALKS

Mr Nash May Go

(Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, Aug. 21. The Leader of the Opposition (Mr Nash) will advise the leader of the British Labour Party (Mr Gaitskell) on Thursday whether he will attend the London meeting of Commonwealth Parliamentary Labour

leaden next Monday. Mr Gaitskell has invited his fellow Labour leaders in the Commonwealth to a week of talks on the European Economic Community negotiations to be held just before the Commonwealth Prime Ministers’ conference beginning on September 10. Mr Nash said tonight he would decide tomorrow whether to accept the invitation.

He was last in London when he was Prime Minister in 1960. Recently he expressed interest in the consultations among Socialist leaders in European States who met to discuss the Common Market position. Socialist representatives from the Common Market countries are expected to attend the Landon meeting. It is understood that the Canadian and Australian Labour leaders will also meet Mr Gaitskell. There are at present no Labour Prime Ministers in the Commonwealth. but as the Australian Labour Leader (Mr Caldwell) is officially associated with the Australian Prime Ministers’ party to go to London, it is possible that Socialist attitudes could be presented through him.
