Power Board Merger
WELLINGTON, Aug. 21. To amalgamate the Springs-Ellesmere Electric Power Board with the Banks Peninsula Electric Power Board, the Springs-Ellesmere Electric Power Board Empowering Bill was introduced in the House of Representatives today and referred to the local bills committee.
The bill, introduced by the member of Parliament for Lyttelton (Mr N. E. Kirk), provides for the establishment of a new authority, the Central Canterbury Electric Power Board, to operate the electrical undertakings of the present two boards. It fixes October 13. 1962, as the date for the election of nine board members, March 31. 1983, for the abolition of the present districts, and April I, 1963, for the constitution of the new district described in a schedule to the bill. sentation on the board as follows:
Akaroa. one member; Wairewa and Mount Herbert counties, part of Heathcote county and part of Lyttelton borough, one member; Ellesmere county and part of Selwyn county, two members; Springs County and parts of the Halswell and Malvern counties, one member; and Paparua county, four members.
The bill also provides that the election of the original boards shall not be held this year and that the term of office of the present boards shall continue until April 1. next year. Last week, the chairman of the local bills committee. Mr A. E. Allen (Government, Franklin) told the House that the committee had agreed to admit the bill after the prescribed time for local bills, but there was no guarantee the committee would deal with it this session.
