Impolite?

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. August 21. The “yo, yo, yo,” cheering that Thai students have made famous at Wellington during the visit of the King and Queen of Thailand is not “yo, yo, yo,” at all. A Thai student said today that Western ears had in fact been picking up only part of the chant, which was “chaiyo.”

“Yo” by itself is reputedly not very polite in Thai.
