Pakistan Asked To Provide Troops

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) LAHORE, August 21. The Pakistan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohammed Ali Bogra, said in Lahore last night that Pakistan had received a formal request to send troops to West New Guinea under the United Nations Administration, the British United Press reported. He said a final decision had not yet been made on the request.

The Indian Government has agreed to a United Nations request to send six Army officers for service in West New Guinea, an External Affairs Ministry spokesman said in New Delhi today

In view of the cease-fire they were not attacked, the service said, but one of them approaching Tanah Merah Bay was lighted up by searchlights and flares to discourage it from possible landings. Private firms have combined in asking the Netherlands Government in The Hague for more efficient measures to protect their business interests before and after the United Nations takes over temporary control of West New Guinea. Indonesia and the Netherlands are observing the ceasefire, a United Nations spokesman said in New York.

Under the agreement reached between Holland and Indonesia last week, a United Nations force will be stationed in the territory until it passes to Indonesian control next May 1. There have been reports that Malaya has also been asked to supply troops for the force. Papuans Protest

The National Papuan Front today telegraphed the United Nations Secretary-General (U Thant) protesting against the scheduled visit of Brigadier Indar Jit Rikhye of India, U Thant’s military adviser. He is being sent by U Thant to supervise cease-fire arrangements.

The spokesman said that U Thant had been assured by both sides that hostilities between them had ceased on schedule.

The telegram said that it was not safe for Brigadier Rikhye to come, the Associated Press reported in New York. The front of Papuans is preparing demonstrations when the Indian arrives today. A request bv a big tribe in West New Guinea to move to Australian territory is now under consideration in Canberra, according the Australian Broadcasting Commission’s diplomatic correspondent. The request was announced when the Santani tribe near Hollandia. decided after two days of debate to seek permission to enter Australian New Guinea. They are reported to number about 8000 Submarines Seen

The Dutch Government Information Service reported that two Indonesian submarines were spotted off the north coast of New Guinea, near Cape Durville. last night, sailing in the direction of Hollandia.
