NEW OFFICE BUILDING
Drainage Board Project
The architect had been given the “green light" to go ahead with detailed plans for the new office building in Cambridge terrace by the board’s resolution to raise a loan of £190.000; but a decision to proceed with the building would not be made until the whole financial position had been considered, Mr F. R. Price, the chairman, {old the Christchurch Drainage Board last evening. “We anticipate that it will be about 12 months before plans can be completed and tenders can be called,” he said. “The matter will come before the board again, and we can then consider whether the general financial position justifies our going ahead.”
Mr Price said the Local Authorities Loans Board had sanctioned the loan for a four-storey building. Objectors had been assured that the whole financial position would be assessed before a decision was made to gc ahead. Mr G. A. G. Connal said. “If conditions are the same in 12 months’ time as they are now, I have no doubt the scheme would be approved,” he added.
“There is no question in my mind that the board should proceed and do whatever is necessary to get a building just as quickly as possible so we can create better facilities for our engineers and staff so they can more quickly and efficiently plan our sewerage and drainage works,” said Mr T. D. Flint. When Mr R. C. Neville protested against the information being given to the newspapers before the board meeting, Mr Price replied that members had been advised of the Loans Board's sanction before he said anyhing to the press.
