New Fire Station
Sir,—How strange to read in your paper that members of the Fire Board seem to have no knowledge of the peep-holes in the doors of the quarters in the new fire station! Either the board has not visited the fire station or they must be very unobservant. It would almost appear that the architects sprang these peep-holes on the board. It is the public who have tp pay for the fire station, evin although part of it is through the fire insurance premiums, and there is no reason why unnecessary expenses should be involved. I note that the men can cover up the peep-holes. Why not the board or the architect? —Yours, etc., COVER GIRL.
August 15, 1962. [The chairman of the Christchurch Metropolitan Fire Board (Mr W R. Campbell) said: “If this correspondent is not prepared to disclose his name I am not prepared to answer his letter. If any reader desires information upon the subject referred to, I would be pleased to explain the corrective action taken by the board, and if necessary I would be pleased to visit the station with him.”]
