Secret U.S. Satellites

The British magazine. “Flight.” said today that the United States had launched 20 secret satellites since November 22. six of them Samos “soy” satellites. The magazine identified the others as one Midas missilewarning satellite. 12 Discoverer satellites carrying Midas and Samos equipment and one Midas or Samos which failed to orbit. All were launched by the United States Air Force. Of the 38 satellites and space probes launched this year. nipe had been Russian, two of them manned. 18 had been secret American satellites, one a manned American satellite and 10 other American satellites, of which two were manned, the magazine said.

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright)' CANBERRA, August 16. The recently-dismissed Australian Minister for Air (Mr L. H. E. Bury) has been appointed a member of the Parliamentary foreign affairs committee. The Minister for Externa! Affairs (Sir Garfield Barwick) announced the appointment in the House of Representatives today. Labour members ironically cheered the appointment and the Acting Leader of the Opposition (Mr E. G. Whitlam) called: “He’s got his foot on the bottom rung of the ladder again.”
