LICENSING POLLS
Eligibility May Be Reviewed , (Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON. Aug. 15. The question of eligibility to vote in local polls on licensing issues is “certainly entitled to consideration when the law is being reviewed,” says the Licensing Control Commission’s annual report to the House of Representatives. .The report says conflict of local opinion on this matter arose when a poll was authorised on the petition of residents of the county town of Wadkanae who sought to deny the proposal to remove a Licence from Otaki to their town. Many Waikanae property owners were part-time or occasional residents and had their electoral qualifications based elsewhere. Many found cause for complaint that, as their property and personal interests were not less affected than permanent residents' interests. they should have the right to vote.
