LEAGUE South Africa Included In World Cup Plan
(New Zealand Pre** Aesociatton> AUCKLAND, August 14. South Africa has been inchided in a skeleton plan for the 1965 World Cup Rugby League competition, to be held jointly in New Zealand and Australia. This was announced in Auckland today by Mr W. Fallowfield, secretary of the International Board which is meeting tn Auckland.
South Africa’s inclusion is subject to the Code making suitable development in the country. The board agreed to stage the competition jointly in Australia and New Zealand. Matches would be played over four successive Saturdays—in Brisbane, Auckland and Sydney. Two or three mid-week games would also be added.
said Mr Fallowfield, who will draw up a programme for the competition which will then be examined by the competing countries. If South Africa does enter the event, the team strength of countries will be increased from 18 to 20 because of the extra games. Cyele ef Tears
The board has altered the cycle of tours from four years to five. France will tour Australia and New Zealand in 1964, New Zealand will visit England and France the following year and in 1967 Britain will- tour Australia and New Zealand.
Mr Fallowfield said the board felt that it was not wise to plan any further than 1967 due to the possible inclusion of South Airies in international football.
Delegates could reach no agreement on the subject of tour percentages, and it will be left for the host and visiting countries to negotiate on the percentages to be paid. The Courtney Cup, symbol of world league supremacy, will be competed for now on a percentage basis. From March, i 960, to March, 1965, test results—world cup results will not be considered—will be taken and the average worked out. The Country with the best average will hold the cup for five years. The - tours decided—the board did not consider those between Australia and New Zealand, and England and France—are: 1963: Australia to England and France. 1964: France to Australia and New Zealand. 1965: World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. 1966: New Zealand to England and France. 1967: Britain to Australia and New Zealand.
