VACANCIES—feENEKAL PUBLIC SERVICE DRAUGHTING CADETS Applications are invited from boys and girls who are leaving school this year for draughting cadetships in the undermentioned departments. The minimum educational qualification is School Certificate, with mathematics, and students sitting this year may apply. Commencing salaries are:— With School Certificate—£43o per annum. With Endorsed School Certificate —£430 per annum, increasing to £495 per annum after 6 months service. With University Entrance—£49s per annum. With Higher School Certificate—£49s per annum increasing to £555 per annum alter 6 months service. MINISTRY OF WORKS Training will be given in the design of engineering structures, highways and general engineering and survey draughting A sound mathematical knowledge is desirable. There are also vacancies in the Mechanical Division with training in mechanical, structural, electrical and building services engit-eering: the Architectural Division with training in architecture, structural engineering and quantity surveying and in the Land Planning Section, with training in plotting and plan drawing, land survey and registration systems for the development of land for residential and associated uses. From time to time outstanding cadets with University Entrance may be selected fqr archiectural and engineering cadetship. LANDS AND SURVEY Cadets will have every opportunity to make a career for themselves in the following:— ta) SURVEY DRAUGHTING: Involving the drawing of plans and maps, survey calculations, preparing maps from aerial photographs and the applications of surveys to the land laws of New Zealand. (b) CARTOGRAPHY: The cadets will be trained in the preparation drawing and publication of topograpical and aeronautical maps and charts, as well as general maps of New Zealand and the Pacific. (c) PHOTOGRAMMETARY: Training will be given in the preparation of maps from aerial surveys. This involves the use of precision optical instruments to obtain map data from aerial photographs, and the production of special topographical maps for engineering projects. Also base maps for cartographic woik. (d) GEODETIC COMPUTING: Cadets will be trained in survey draughting and advanced survey computations and will be encouraged to take further studies in mathematics at University. From time to time draughting cadets may apply for survey cadetships as vacancies occur. ELECTRICITY DEPARTMENT This Department will train cadets in all aspects of draughting connected with generating and transmission of electric power. From time to time, engineering cadets may be selected from draughting cadets. NEW ZEALAND FOREST SERIVICE Draughting cadets will be trained in plan and map drawing <survey basis), map compilation, mapping from aerial photographs and in the specialised techniques being developed In Forestry draughting NAVY DEPARTMENT Training will be given in the Hydrographic Branch in all aspects of the preparation and publication of navigational charts.
