Local Shares Gain In Brighter Market
Several shares of particular Christchurch interest made good gains in yesterday’s trading. Notable among these was Mason Struthers, 6d up at 4s 6d, the highest price reached by these shares last year. The market had a brighter tone, with more rises than falls. Tekau Knitwear, in first business since July 2, rose 2s. NJZ. Investment Mortgage and Deposit, Amalgamated Batteries and Dunlop Rubber also made good gains. G. H. Scales, 9d down at 34s 3d, showed the sharpest fall. Australian shares were mainly steady. Price movements were slight and were mainly upward.
