EXAMINING AT UNIVERSITY

Tighter Schedule This Year

Examinations at the University of Canterbury will be held between October 23 and November 10. The contraction this year into three weeks is a saving in time, compared with the previous years when the University of New Zealand also was functioning.

Previously the University of Canterbury held its examinations in October but those conducted by the University of New Zealand had to run well into November to avoid clashes for students involved in both series.

As an autonomous degreegranting university, Canterbury will now conduct virtually all its examinations and such subjects as law will come fully into its framework of testing. A few subjects, such as professional accountancy, will still be externally examined.

As the University of Canterbury actually conducted the earlier examinations for the University of New Zealand the only extra work involved will be in setting and marking papers. The administrative work may be a little lighter as material will not have to be sent to the central authority, nor wnll duplicate records have to be kept.
