Variety Concert By Pupils

A bright programme was provided by pupils of the Riccarton High School at a concert held in the school assembly hall last evening. The programme began with three numbers by the school orchestra, antkja piano solo was played bjwjfilliam Langford. who has been chosen as the only representative from the South Island to Attend Bela Siki's special classes in Wellington. In “A Musical Journey" the school choir sang songs from different countries. A Cuban folk song with guitar and castanet backing, and a rousing performance of “Oklahoma" were highlights of this section.

Other items included Scandinavian folk dances, poi dances, a skipping dance, and two piano accordian numbers. The junior drama group presented "Knit One. Purl One.” an amusing one-act play which was well received by the audience.

Waterslder Injured. A watersider. Mr V. Wilson, married, of Oxford street. Lyttelton, crushed his right hand while working aboard the freighter Lord Byron yesterday morning. After treatment by Dr. N. D. Walker, he was taken by ambulance to the Christchurch Hospital for an X-ray.
