Need For Control Raised
Was the chief fire officer happy about bitumen plants? Mr A S Hollander asked at the Christchurch Metropolitan Fire Board s meeting last evening. There had been two fires in bitumen plants in Manchester street recently. Mr Hollander said. “According to the newspaper reports these fellows were away at lunch, and up she blows.” “Straight out carelessness nothing else.” Mr Osmond said on the cause of the fires When Mr Hollander said that should be pointed out to the operators of the plants Mr Osmond said he would see if there was anything requiring some form of control over the plants.
