OLDER RAIL WAGGONS

Not Suitable In Aranioana (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Aug 14 Some railway waggons cannot be transported on the new road-ra.il ferry Aramoana, the Minister of Railways (Mr McAlpine) told Parliament today. He said these were an older type of rolling stock with wooden 'underframes They were not so able to withstand the strain’ and stress ol being secured tightly in heavy seas. But apart from these, the Aramoana could accommodate waggons of all sizes and types Mr McAlnine assured a questioner. Mr D Maclntyre (Government. Hastings) that sufficient modern waggons would be kept at all stations This would ensure woodenframed wagons were not used on the inter-island run and would avoid shipside loading.
