Chinese Fight Floods

A "tense anti - flood struggle” is being waged in the north-eastern China province of Kirin, where the July rainfall average was the highest on record, the People's Dailv"* reported today. The newspaper said there had already been "a flood disaster” in some areas of Kirin. and thousands of people were standing by in other parts, "ready to take drastic action at any time.” The report did not mention the effect on crops in the province. Mainly soya beans are grown.
