Fencing PROVINCIAL CONTEST
Nearly 50 Entries Received Almost 50 entries have been received for the Canterbury provincial fencing championships to be held a: Wigram next week-end and on September 8 and 9 Visual ■ individual foil events in all grades will be contested on Saturday, and ;eants representing the Christchurch Swords Club, the United Fencing Club, the University Fencing Club will meet on Sunday Epee, sabre, and electrical foil events will be fought on the week-end in September. The junior men's foil contest, with seven entries, and the junior women's event, with six competitors, w.ll be the largest sections fought on Saturday. Senior foil events have drawn only three women and four men entrants, and the intermediate contest has only three entrants in each section Fencers of lower grading, promoted after good performances in their own section. will be eligible to compete in the more senior sections. however, so these events could be larger than initial entries indicate. Six teams, a men's and women's side from each of the three major clubs, will compete on Sunday. Sabre, with seven entrants, will be the largest section fought in September. Six men and five women have entered in the electrical foil contest. Only three persons have entered for eoee. The events in September are open, fencers of all grades being eligible to compete in any event
