<N 2.PA. -Reuter— Copyright > WASHINGTON, Aug. 11. The»Soviet Union yesterday conducted an atmospheric nuclear test of less than one megaton, the United States Atomic Energy Commission announced. A megaton detonation produces the explosive effect of the equivalent of 1,000,000 tons Of T.N.T, The blast was near Novaya Zemlaya and was the third Soviet test announced this week although the commission stated there were indications that the Soviet Union had conducted some small nuclear experiments before last Sunday’s detonation, which it estimated to be in the 30 megaton range.
