Boxing Waqa Knocks Out Mahoni
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 13. With a left hook in the third round, the Fijian, L. Waqa. knocked out the New Zealand heavy-weight boxing champion. G. Mahonl, at Wellington tonight. It was only the second time In his career that Mahonl has been knocked out. The first round was even and the second was Mahoni’s. but Waqa drove Mahonl into the ropes with a two-handed attack to the head in the third. Mahonl retaliated, but then met the punch that knocked him out. Waqa hopes his next bout will be with R. Stininato. Mahonl wants a return with Waqa. Weights: Waqa 12st lOJlb. Mahonl 12st 131 b. Walsh Beaten By Tuapola (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. August 13. F. Tuapola (Auckland) beat J. Walsh (Australia) on points in an eight-round professional middle-weight boxing bout In Auckland tonight. The judges disagreed but the referee. Mr F. Pearcey. awarded the bout to Tuapola. who is a former New Zealand amateur champion. Tuapola weighed lost 91b and Walsh list IJIb. Christian Beats McNally (N.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN. August 13. In a whirlwind finish with both boxers taking counts in a hectic last round, the Australian welter-weight. T. Christian (lost 81b) gained a split decision points win in his return bout with P. McNally (lost 41bi. of Dunedin. In the Dunedin Town Hall tonight Christian won the first encounter two weeks ago on points.
