SCHOOL STAFF ABSENCES
Technical College Teachers School staff absences from the Technical College in June and July were fairly high, it was reported at a meeting of the board of managers of the college last evening. Twenty-one teachers were away for a total of 142 days. Influenza accounted for the absence of 12 teachers on 27 days; two conferences, a death, and rll-health accounted tor the rest. A request from Mr F. C. J. Port for bis resignation to take effect at the end of the second term, as the Ngatea District High School (to which he has been appointed) had a severe staff shortage which might affect fifth and sixth form examination chances, was granted. Leave of absence for two years for Mr J. Simpson, who wishes to study in England, was approved. It was agreed that the £1 deposit for free text-books remain, since it encouraged pupils to look after their books.
Delegates appointed to the Technical Education Association conference in Wellington in October were Messrs D. W. Lyall and J.
