NEW UNION PROPOSED
Freezing Works In Bay tN.Z Press Association? HASTINGS. Aug. 13. The executive of freezing workers’ unions at Gisborne. Wairoa. Tomoana and Whakatu are considering forming a new union for the East Coast. Mr R. Adams, president of the Whakatu Freezing Workers’ Union, which is, at nresent, a separate union, said he hoped the union executives at the four works -oncerned would meet within the next month to discuss the proposal He said Mrs I E. Tombleson. M.P for Gisborne, and Mr D Maclntyre, M.P for Hastings. were both interested in the suggestion. Mr Adams said the suggestion was that the men at •he four works form a new union with the idea of having the district declared a aeoarate industrial district. The move had originated in Gisborne. “If these four works get together we could much more easily sort out some of our problems.” said Mr Adams.
At present the Gisborne freezing workers are in the Auckland industrial district. Wairoa is in Wellington. Tomoana is linked with the Patea union, and Whakatu is separate.
