Obituary MR A. J. MALLEY

Mr A. J. Malley, one of the oldest practising solicitors in New Zealand, died in Christchurch yesterday. He was 91 Mr Malley, who was born in Christchurch, attended St. Leo's Roman Catholic Primary School in Barbadoes street and later St. Patrick's College, Wellington. On leaving school he was articled to Mr F. H. Bruges, a solicitor with offices in Hereford street, and in 1897 Mr Malley was admitted as a barrister and solicitor and began practising on his own account Mr Malley practised on his own until 1951, when he was joined by his son, Mr E M

Malley. Since then Mr W. F. Brown has also joined the partnership, now A. J. Malley, Son. and Brown. Mr Malley worked until his death. He spent about an hour at his office on Saturday He was prominent in Roman Catholic affairs, and was president of the Canterbury branch of the Hibernian Society for some years He was a member of the committee set up to organise the building of the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament

In his later years Mr Malley became interested in bowls and for several years was president of the Sumner Bowling Club. He was elected a Life member of the club
