KISSED IN STREET
Girl Gaoled In Spain (N.Z. Peers Assn.—Cirpyright) LONDON, August 10 A solitary kiss on a Spanish street around midnight cost an English girl two days in gaol and a fine of £3O. The incident occurred while the girl, 20-yeair-old Catherine Handley, was holidaying in Barcelona, the ‘‘Daily Express’’ reported. Miss Handley said she was strolling along a well-lit. tree-lined street with her American boy fdiend when they had a “short and friendly” kiss—and were promptly arrested. She said she was kept in dirty cells for two days with prostitutes and then fined £3O for immorality. She was freed on Wednesday night after the British Consul paid her fine. She said the first night she slept on a concrete slab without bedclothes. The second night she slept on a concrete floor Her boy friend was also fined £3O. Under Spanish law kissing is strictly forbidden in the street.
