Badminton CHRISTCHURCH STILL LEADS

v ° n J ide - Railway, and 1 Tistchurch were winning teams when the eighth round of t-e Canterbury Badminton Association's A grade competition was played this week. Christchurch still leads the competition by a comfortable margin. Avonside and Selwyn II fought out a close match, the former team winning 9-7. SelAy n 11. lacking two of its usual men players, did well to hod last year’s champion team to such an even match. Although E. Ogier surprisingly ost to R. Burrell, it was AvonNice's strength in the men which won the side the match, as Selwyn could win only one men's singles and one mixed doubles, and lost both the men’s doubles

Railway and Knox also fough' out a close match with Railway winning at 10-6. Knox lacked D A. Henderson, who was indisposed. but the top two men's singles were thrilling it'mes. M. Ford (Railway! lost to B W. Crafts ’Knox) 16-13, and D. Forbes beat E. A. Harrington 17-14 in the second a ngles. This was a good performance by Harrington, who is a steady retrieving player. All the women’s singles " atches were close, and all were won pv Knox. With the mixed doubles to be placed the '■•ore was 6-aIl. but Railway i ante through by taking all four matches in that section.
