CONDITIONS IN FERRY
Crew Quarters Criticised (N Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. Aug. 10. Conditions in the crew's quarters in the Aramoana were criticised today by the president of the Seamen's Union (Mr F. P. Walsh). Water from the showers had run along the length of the bulkhead and caused considerable damage to the crew’s effects, he said. At one stage there had been 4in of water in one of the cabins. “The union is thinking of taking action to protect the men’s interests,” said Mr Walsh. “The men are packed like sardines in their messroom. “The little refrigerator is fit only for an old couple without children—it could not even hold a rabbit. “The whole atmosphere of the vessel is tinny. “The Government should appoint a commission of inquiry,” said Mr Walsh.
