PIRATES AT BORNEO

Two coastal minesweepers of the Royal Navy were today withdrawn from a naval exercise in Singapore tad directed to proceed on antipiracy duties off Borneo. The Fleet Information Office said the diversion was necessary “in view of the seriousness of the situation there.”
There had been a “significant increase” in piracy in North Borneo waiters, including raids on coastal villages in the Last month, the announcement added. The pirates in all the cases were well armed.
The Royal Navy, with the aid of the Royal Air Force, have maintained anti-piracy patrols in the Borneo area in support of the local police in the last month.
Recently, the frigate. Loch KiHisport, has been patrolling the waters and the minesweepers, Maryton and Chatow. have been detailed for anti-piracy operations.
