Going By Train

North Islanders still had a better chance of getting home on time by train.
Although the timekeeping of South Island express trains and railcars improved to a performance of 69 per cent, “on-time” arrivals last year, their record still lags a little behind northern trains.
The annual report of the Railways Department shows that of 14.987 train arrivals at principal stations throughout the country. 69 per cent, were on time, compared with 67 per cent, the previous year.
In the North Island, “on-time” services increased from 69 per cent, to 70 per cent.: southern services improved substantially from 62 per cent, to ”9 per cent.
