PAPER BAGS FOR REFUSE
’Too Expensive For Citv'
After looking at experiments m Sydney with paper refuse bags. Mr G. A. G. Connal, a member of the Christchurch City Council, has concluded that they would be too expensive to warrant their adoption in Christchurch. Two drawbacks to their use seen by Mr Connal were the danger of fire if hot asiies were put in them and rhe possibility of dogs tearing the bags.
But the mam drawback would be cost, he said. In Sydney each bag cost 8d to 9d. In addition householders had to face the cost of the metal containers for the bags. “It would seem that the best policy fo< Christchurch is the adoption of the standard refuse bin with the cliptype lid.” Mr Connal added.
