WELLINGTON. August 9 The Tariff and Development Board has been asked to carry out its first two major inquiries They are on the criteria of industrial development in New Zealand and the setting up of an industrial finance corporation The Minister of Industries and Commerce <Mr Marshall) said both had considerable significance for future development. The board would hold public inquiries into both, and would invite evidence from the public The order of reference for the investigation of criteria for development requires the board to examine and report, having regard to: tl» The steady growth of sound and efficient industries (2 The use of natural resources (3> The use of raw materials which are available or can
be produced in New Zealand <4» The extent to which imported materials and components may be justified •5> The provision of employment opportunities and the best use of labour and management resources (6) The extent to which industrial development should be competitive at to price, quality, design and range with imports. (7) The extent and nature of the protection which may be given to New Zealand industry. (3> The saving of overseas funds both immediately and in the long-term. <9> The participation of overseas capital either as equity capital or by way of loans (10» The development of export markets. (11) The development of industrial skills
(12) The development of industry as a basis for the growth of other associated industries (13) The availability of overseas research, design, techniques and industrial skills and their application to New Zealand industrial development. (14> The regional development of industry. The board will examine and report on the need for an industrial finance corporation for additional medium and long-term establishment and development finance, the most suitable means of making it available, industries and classes of business which should get it. the extent, type' and likely sources of the corporation. capital, and the procedure for the setting up of the corporation. Tite board will also report on industrial finance corporations in other countries.
