MOTOR-CYCLIST IMPRISONED
Chased By Traffic Officer (N.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN. August 8. A traffic officer who followed a motor-cyclist along the main highway at Milton. was forced to leave his car and pursue his quarry on foot through trees and scrub, finally running him to earth on the bank of a river. An account of the chase was given to Mr J. D. Willis, S.M.. in the Magistrate's Court today when the motorcyclist, Trevor Bruce Donaldson. aged 24. a workman, pleaded guilty to having driven while disqualified. He was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment and the period of his disqualification was extended to June. 1965. The Magistrate remarked on Donaldson’s record which included convictions for dangerous driving, conversion and disqualified driving.
Commemoration Service.— A service commemorating the twentieth anniversary of United States Marines landing on Guadalcanal was held this morning at the Cenotaph. Honiara, in bright sunshine. — Honiara, August 8.
